Why CastPanda
Movie night, minus the hassle.
Your Mac is full of videos your TV can’t open on its own. CastPanda bridges the gap, so you can stop converting files and start watching.
- Plays almost anything MKV, AVI, MP4, MOV, WebM and more, converted as it plays, so there’s no waiting.
- Original quality, light on your Mac Your videos look their best on the big screen, while your Mac stays cool and quiet.
- AirPlay and Chromecast Apple TV, AirPlay 2 smart TVs from Samsung, LG, Sony and Vizio, and Chromecast.
- Playlists Drop several videos, a folder or an .m3u file. Reorder, save, and skip with ⌘← and ⌘→.
- Resume where you left off Open a video again and it picks up where you stopped, or start over in one click.
- Subtitles that just work Built-in tracks or your own .srt, .ass or .vtt file, with adjustable size and timing.
- Surround sound Pick any audio track. 5.1 and 7.1 play in surround.
- Stays awake Your Mac won’t doze off mid-movie.
Subtitles
Subtitles that show up on the big screen.
Use the subtitles built into your video, or add a subtitle file, and CastPanda puts them on your TV. If they’re a little early, too small or hard to read against a bright scene, fix it in a click.
- Pick built-in tracks, or add .srt, .ass, .vtt and more
- Make the text bigger or smaller
- Nudge the timing until it matches the dialogue
- Add a background box for easy reading

FAQ
Which video formats does CastPanda play?
Almost all of them: MKV, MP4, MOV, AVI, WebM, M4V, WMV, FLV, MPG, TS, M2TS, OGV, 3GP and more. Files your TV already plays (H.264 in MP4 or MKV) are sent as they are, and everything else is converted as it plays on your Mac’s built-in media engine, so you never have to convert a file yourself.
Which TVs does it work with?
Apple TV, smart TVs with AirPlay 2 (including many models from Samsung, LG, Sony and Vizio), Chromecast, and TVs with Google Cast built in. If your TV shows up in your Mac’s AirPlay menu, or you can cast to it from your phone, CastPanda should be able to play to it.
Do I have to wait for a video to convert?
No. Videos your TV can already play aren’t converted at all, and everything else is prepared in small pieces as it plays, starting with the moment you want to watch. Playback starts right away, and you can skip to any scene without waiting.
Does it upload my videos or need an internet connection?
Your videos are never uploaded. They stream directly from your Mac to your TV over your local network, with no cloud service and no account. Your Mac and TV just need to be on the same network.
How do I add subtitles?
If the video has subtitles built in (text tracks in MKV or MP4), pick one from the subtitles menu; a track marked default or forced turns on by itself. You can also add an .srt, .ass, .ssa, .vtt, .sub (MicroDVD), .smi, .scc or .mpl file, and one named after the video, sitting next to it, is picked up automatically. Change the size, shift the timing if they’re out of sync, and turn on a background box to make them easier to read. Picture-based subtitles (Blu-ray PGS, DVD VobSub) aren’t supported yet.
Can I play several videos in a row?
Yes. Drop several videos, a folder (subfolders included) or an .m3u playlist, and they play one after another, over AirPlay or Chromecast. Reorder the list by dragging, remove videos, save it as an M3U playlist, and skip with Previous and Next. Reopen a video later and CastPanda picks up where you stopped, with a Start Over button if you’d rather begin again.
Can I switch audio tracks, and is there surround sound?
Yes. For files with several audio tracks, such as a dub or a commentary, you can pick the one you want; CastPanda starts on the file’s default track. 5.1 and 7.1 soundtracks are kept as 5.1 surround (7.1 is folded down to 5.1), and a setting switches back to stereo. CastPanda doesn’t pass through Dolby Atmos, Dolby Digital or DTS.
Does my Mac need to stay on while I watch?
Yes, your Mac does the streaming. CastPanda keeps it awake while a video plays, so it won’t fall asleep halfway through. On a MacBook, keep the lid open while you watch.
How does the free trial work?
Download CastPanda and use every feature free for 7 days. If you like it, buy a license to keep using it. It’s a one-time purchase, not a subscription.
What do I need to run CastPanda?
A Mac running macOS 26 or later, and a compatible TV or streaming device on the same network.
